Alexandros-Andreas Kyrtsis visited the STGS at FAU in November 2021 supported by the international guest professorships program at FAU. Alexandros-Andreas Kyrtsis is Professor emeritus of Sociology at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His main fields of research are sociology of technology with special reference to social and organizational informatics, economic sociology and social studies of finance, social history of ideas, and social theory of urban and geographical space. Among his recent interests are science and technology diplomacy as well as transnational intellectual entanglements. Research in these latter fields takes place in cooperation with Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen Nürnberg and Freie Universität Berlin. Kyrtsis has held teaching appointments at the University of Zurich; the University of Crete, where he was also adviser to the President, responsible for the organization of the School of the Social Sciences; the Universities of Thessaly; and the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. He was a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT – Program in Science Technology and Society), the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Edinburgh, the Institute of Advanced Studies on Science, Technology & Society in Graz, and ETH Zurich. He has commissioned consultancy and research projects for the Greek General Secretariat for Research and Technology, the European Commission, as well as for the financial and the information technology sector (Alpha Bank Greece, Hellenic Bankers Association, Unisystems Ltd, National Bank of Greece, Swiss Re).
