María Jesús Santesmases visited the STGS at FAU in November 2021, supported by the international guest professorships program at FAU. María Jesús Santesmases, PhD in Chemistry (University of Madrid), is Research professor at the Spanish National Research Council’s Institute of Philosophy. Her research focuses on the history of the biomedical sciences, science policy, and gender and women in biomedicine. Her recent publications include Circulating Penicillin in Spain, 1940s-1980s: Health, Wealth, and Authority (Palgrave 2018); a special issue of Arenal: revista de historia de las mujeres on the history and biography of women scientists in Spain (ed. with Ana Romero de Pablos, 2018); A Cell-based Epistemology: New Historical Approaches to Human Genetics, special issue of Historical Studies in the Natural Sciences(ed. with Edna Suárez-Díaz, 2015); and Gendered Drugs and Medicine: Historical and Socio-cultural Perspectives (ed. with Teresa Ortiz Gómez, Ashgate 2014).
